Summer is Kitty Window Time

I was working at my desk recently, and heard a strange noise that wasn't coming from Katya and Anya. I looked out the window, and there was a squirrel, sitting on the corner of the back yard fence, taunting the kitties with strange noises. They were on high alert, tails a-wagging and ears a-flittering. It was all very cute.

Now that the den windows are open, there are so many interesting things to see in the back yard.

Of course, it's better if you can have the window sill all to yourself. :-)

Last summer, I changed out the curtains in the kitchen, which awoke Katya to a whole new world of window watching. It's now difficult to prevent her from getting up in the kitchen window over the sink.

BUSTED!

Fred Meijer Gardens -- March 2010

In March, Mike and I went to see the butterflies at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids (see http://meijergardens.org/). It's a nice break from the winter, and taking photos of butterflies can be fun! It can also be frustrating; I had to delete quite a number of them because they were blurry.
Before we left, Mike took a little snooze on the sofa, and Anya decided to join him. Soooooo cute!

As we entered the part of the indoor gardens with the butterflies, there was a desert exhibit. Here's a javelina, about which I recently learned when we visited Mike's parents in Arizona.

The sculptures of the desert animals were very cool.

This is Mike, saying that he likes the warmth of the gardens, especially to the new snow we were getting that day. Look out the window behind him.

The Meijer Gardens are also known for sculptures.

As you can tell, there aren't just butterflies to take photos of...

There were feeders throughout to attract the butterflies.

The butterflies shared the spotlight with some beautifully colorful birds...

and some gorgeous flowers, which are easier to photograph. :-)

You might recognize our outfits; we went to the Gardens the same day we had our photographs taken.

The inside of the building gives you a forest-like feeling. See the trees?

The leaves in the floor are a great addition, too.

The glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly were also fantastic. There's a special exhibit all summer long featuring his glass sculptures, so stay tuned for a post on that one, as I'm definitely going to go at some point.

Mike and the Girls

So, it's been a while since I last posted. It's been a hard winter, and I've been working like crazy, so I haven't had a whole lot of cute new photos to post...until I took this one. Mike is not much of a kitty fan, but they sure do like him! We were both on the sofa, but look who they're gravitating toward, especially Katya, who is perched as if she can watch Mike over his shoulder.

And here's Katya, attempting to get on Mike's lap as he works on the computer. She does this to me all the time.

Kitties!

I have hundreds of photos of my kitties, and here are just a couple of my favorites. And don't worry -- just because the banner has kitties on it doesn't mean that this blog is just about kitties. I've got lots to say and tell, and maybe I'll have time to post stuff once school starts back up next week.

You probably already can tell that I am a bit of a cat fan. Well, it's not just that, but my cats pose really nicely for the camera, especially the brown tabby, Katya. Here she is in my bedroom closet.

And here's Anya, in a similar pose. You might think they don't like the camera, but...

But it's clear that Katya is posing here, loving the attention that she gets.

And she just loves to curl up in sinks or even the bathtub. My cats are definitely not afraid of water, and in fact, they even drink out of the sink and the bathtub, if I let them.

Even Annushka (a.k.a. Anya) has a little flirtation with the camera. Oh, she may be shyer, but don't let that fool you!

For whatever reason, this is a comfortable position for Anya, as I've found her like this on several occasions.

And of course, what kitty doesn't like to snuggle up with the clean clothes (or even dirty ones, for that matter) in the clothes basket??! This is a favorite spot for both of them.
